CaixaForum Madrid
CaixaForum Madrid is contemporary art gallery in the center of Madrid, Spain. It is sponsored by the Catalan bank la Caixa and located at the Paseo del Prado.
It was designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron and opened in 2007. The Gallery combines an old industrial building hollowed out at the base and inside and upper floors encased with rusted steel. Next to it is an art installation of green plants growing on the wall of the neighbouring house by french botanist Patrick Blanc. The green is in reflection of the neighbouring Royal Botanical Garden.
Although the CaixaForum is a modern building, it also exhibits retrospectives of artists from earlier time periods and has evolved into one of the most visited museums in Madrid. In 2009 it featured a retrospective of architect Richard Rogers.
