The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Manhattan is often identified as the most influential museum of modern art in the world.
MoMA underwent extensive renovations in the early 2000s, closing in May 2002 and reopening to the public in a building redesigned by the Japanese architect Yoshio Taniguchi, in November 2004.
On January 1, 2007, Barry Bergdoll succeeded Terence Riley as Chief Curator for Architecture and Design at MoMA.
